Welcome back to the Musculoskeletal series.
We are jumping straight in right now with a 19-year-old quarterback.
So, he gets hit from the blind side mid-sack.
Oh, a classic setup.
Right.
His throwing arm is pinned at exactly 90 degrees of abduction,
and it's rotated as far outward as it will mechanically go.
He feels a sudden pop, and the arm just goes completely dead.
Yeah, that is a visceral description.
It is.
They take him to the ED.
They sedate him.
They reduce the joint.
And then, well, he presents to your clinic two weeks later.
And let me guess, the dominant symptom is apprehension.
Exactly, visceral apprehension.
He tells you that any time he reaches behind his head to put on a shirt or,
you know, grab a seat belt, he feels like the shoulder is going to pop out again.
